Description of Disease
Pertussis (also known as whooping cough) is a very contagious disease. It usually starts with cold-like symptoms, including a mild cough, runny nose and a low-grade fever. After 1 to 2 weeks, severe coughing can begin that continues for weeks. Pertussis spreads from person to person and can cause serious and sometimes life-threatening complications in infants and young children.
